The land west of the Appalachian Mountains was America’s first frontier. These biographies tell the stories of three men—John Sevier, James Robertson, and John Donelson—-who with the help of one very brave Native Indian woman, Nancy Ward, helped colonists to settle this land and make it into the state of Tennessee.
